Real deprivation is to be deprived of obedience to Allah—Exalted is He—and the degree of one’s deprivation corresponds to the extent of one’s disobedience.
A person may be deprived of the joy of prostrating before Allah in prayer.
One may be deprived of the happiness found in reciting the Quran and reflecting on its meanings.
One may be deprived of the spiritual peace that comes with frequently remembering Allah and seeking His forgiveness.
One may be deprived of the sweetness of humility before Allah.
One may be deprived of earning a lawful and pure sustenance.
One may be deprived of turning to Allah in sincere repentance from sins.
The most severe form of deprivation is to be denied the opportunity to die in a state of obedience to Allah—rather, a person dies while disobeying Him. This is the greatest and most profound loss.
