69:13 Then, when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast,
69:14 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow,
69:15 then, on that day, the Great Event comes to pass.
69:16 And the heaven will split and it will be on that Day frail.
69:17 And the angels shall be on its sides, and on that Day eight shall carry the Throne of your Lord above them.
69:18 On that Day, you shall be brought forth, and no secret of yours shall be concealed.
Relationship with the Previous Part
The previous part refers to some disbelieving nations and mentions that the severe punishment of Allah befell them. Besides, it mentions some signs of the Day of Judgment so that people may be prepared for it. Then, this part mentions some events that will take place when the Day of Judgment comes.
Tafsir
69:13 Then, when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast,
The Trumpet is the horn in which the angel Israfil will blow by the command of Allah to mark the beginning of the Day of Judgment.
The single blast is the first blast, after which the entire universe will be destroyed, and after it comes the second blast.
In other words, when the angel Israfil blows in the Trumpet with a single blast, the Day of Judgment will take place.
69:14 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow,
69:15 then, on that day, the Great Event comes to pass.
After the first blow of the Trumpet, the earth and the mountains will be lifted up and crushed. Thus, they will be dust and nothing on the surface of the earth will remain. Then, the Great Event comes to pass, namely, the Day of Judgment will take place, which is certain to come.
The Arabic text uses the word al-waqi’a, something that is certain to happen, to refer to the inevitable occurrence of the Day of Judgment.
69:16 And the heaven will split and it will be on that Day frail.
When the Day of Judgment takes place, the heaven will split and break and become pieces. It will be frail and fragile after it was firm, which happens because the Day of Judgment takes place.
69:17 And the angels shall be on its sides, and on that Day eight shall carry the Throne of your Lord above them.
When the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed, the heaven splits, and the Day of Judgment takes place, the angels shall be on the sides of the heaven. On that Day, eight angels or eight rows of angels, whose strength no one knows but Allah, shall carry the Throne of our Lord, Allah, which will be above them.
69:18 On that Day, you shall be brought forth, and no secret of yours shall be concealed.
When the Day of Judgment with its great horrors takes place, people shall be brought forth for reckoning and recompense for their deeds. Nothing of their affairs and no secret of theirs shall be concealed.
Allah is All-Knowing and He knows what people reveal and what they conceal. On the Day of Judgment, people will be asked about what they did in the worldly life and recompensed according to their deeds, good or evil. Thus, people should be prepared for this day by believing in the Oneness of Allah, performing righteous deeds for the sake of Allah, and avoiding His prohibitions.
