Surah al-Infitar, the Cleaving, was revealed in Mecca. It contains nineteen Ayat. According to the written copy of the Quran, the Mushaf, it is surah number eighty-two.
The surah confirms that the Day of Judgment will certainly take place. It mentions some of the horrors of the Day of Judgment and refers to the fact that people should be prepared for this horrible day by worshipping Allah alone, obeying His commands, and avoiding His prohibitions. Moreover, surah al-Infitar mentions some of Allah’s blessings on the creatures and refers to the happy end of the believers and the evil end of the disbelievers.
Relationship between Surah at-Takwir and al-Infitar
Surah at-Takwir is concluded with referring to the fact that all matters are under Allah’s control, and that He created all creatures and manages their affairs. Allah says, interpretation of the meaning,
81: 27 It is nothing but a reminder to the worlds,
81: 28 for whoever of you who wills to go straight.
81: 29 And you do not will, unless Allah wills, the Lord of the worlds.
Then surah al-Infitar mentions that this universe will be destroyed when the Day of Judgment takes place and that people will be recompensed for all their deeds. Allah says, interpretation of the meaning,
82:1 When the sky splits,
82:2 When the stars scatter,
82:3 When the seas are burst,
82:4 When the graves are overturned,
82:13 Surely, the righteous will be in bliss,
82:14 and the wicked will be in Hellfire
