The Noble Quran, Tafsir of Surah Hud: Ayah 43, the Flood

11:43 He said, ‘I shall shelter myself on a mountain to protect me from the water.’ He said, ‘There is no protector today from Allah’s command except on whom Allah has mercy.’ And the waves came between them and he was of the drowned.

[Surah Hud]

The Quran narrates the reply of the disobedient son. He did not care for the truthful and affectionate call of his father. He did not even realize the extent of the massive and all-inclusive horrors, befalling on earth. He said to his father, ‘I shall shelter myself on a mountain to protect me from the water.’

Indeed, he was ignorant to the last moment of his life. He closed his heart before the appealing call of his merciful father to save him from the danger of Allah’s punishment. Thus, he led himself to destruction.

He said, ‘There is no protector today from Allah’s command except on whom Allah has mercy.’

Prophet Noah, the merciful father, understood the reality of the situation and the danger that was about to befall. Thus, he said his last call to his son. He said, ‘There is no protector today from Allah’s command except on whom Allah has mercy.’ On that horrifying day, no mountains, no shelters, and no protection could save the disbelievers from the anger of Allah. Only those who believed in Allah’s Oneness and obeyed His commands would be saved.

And the waves came between them and he was of the drowned.

The ayah mentions the end of disbelief in Allah’s Oneness. The flood was great and the waves were very high. They were moving swiftly, swallowing everything that was on their way. Thus, the waves came between Prophet Noah, the compassionate father, and his disobedient son. Finally, Noah’s son was drowned with those whom the flood overwhelmed. At this moment, Prophet Noah’s efforts to save his son ended. The son of Prophet Noah was drowned after his father spared no effort to save him from the danger of the flood.

The ayah expressively depicts the position and the efforts of the compassionate and loving father and the careless and ignorant position of the disobedient son. It eloquently narrates about the end of the stubborn and arrogant disbelievers, who willingly chose to follow the path leading to their destruction.

After the passage of thousands of years, we cannot help but hold our breath while we imagine the scene that took place when the flood overwhelmed the enter earth. We can see the huge and high waves, Prophet Noah, the merciful father, the conceited and disobedient son, who disobeyed his father's compassionate appeal, and the overwhelming waves deciding the situation by Allah’s Will. In a moment, everything ended, as if there was no calling and no reply. A compassionate father calling his son to save him from the danger of the anger of Allah, and an unresponsive son who stubbornly refused to obey the sincere advice of his loving father.
